Bapco is committed to the protection of the environment as it believes it is an integral part of the company’s business and culture. Environmental issues are taken very seriously in Bapco, and substantial investments are made to protect and nurture the environment.
The company is committed to achieving continued improvement in its environmental performance and ensuring full compliance with the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Bapco has engaged itself in various projects dedicated to the protection of the environment. Some of its success stories include the 100-day Energy Blitz which generates significant energy savings over the course of 100 days, the multi-million dollar Refinery Gas Desulphurisation Project (RGDP), one of the most intricate and vital environmental compliance projects ever undertaken by Bapco that has successfully reduced sulphur dioxide emissions, the expansive Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Project, a major landscaping project, the CO2 Recovery Plant which is an ambitious environment conservation project, and the Pilot Solar Plant which promotes clean energy in the Kingdom. Highlighting its emphasis on the environment, Bapco’s Green School Award, in association with the Ministry of Education encourages secondary school students to participate in environmental conservation.
Another one of Bapco’s most successful initiatives is the Princess Sabeeka Park in Awali, which was inaugurated in February 2010 by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa & Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women. The Park serves as a spectacular addition to Bapco’s environmental initiatives and houses various rare plant species, in addition to the Dar Al Nakheel, the house of renewable energy. The company’s EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Week which culminates in a highly successful Family Day with an attendance of around 26,000 visitors in its past edition is also dedicated to encouraging environmental protection in Bahrain.

Bapco is certified to the internationally recognized standards for the Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001) and Environmental Management System (ISO 14001). Bapco has implemented it’s Environmental Management System (EMS) to be consistent with ISO 14001:2015 standard.
